Vintage & Y2K Size Guide

One of the most common questions we get: "why does this vintage Large fit like a modern Small?" The answer is that clothing sizing has changed a lot over the decades due to a trend called vanity sizing. A vintage or Y2K size Large will often fit closer to a modern Small or Medium, and a vintage size 10 may fit like a modern size 4-6. Because of this, we strongly recommend shopping by measurements, not the size on the tag.

How to Read Our Measurements

Every listing includes the item's flat measurements, taken with the garment laid flat on a table. Here's what each term means:

Pit-to-Pit: Measured straight across the garment from armpit to armpit, then doubled for the full bust/chest circumference.
Length: Measured from the highest point of the shoulder seam straight down to the hem.
Waist: Measured straight across the narrowest part of the garment, then doubled for the full waist circumference.
Hips: Measured straight across the widest part of the hip area, then doubled for the full hip circumference.
Inseam: For pants and shorts, measured from the crotch seam down to the hem.

Our Best Tip: Compare, Don't Guess

Grab a similar item from your own closet that fits you well — a t-shirt, dress, or pair of jeans — and lay it flat. Measure it the same way described above and compare those numbers directly to the measurements listed for the item you're considering. This is far more reliable than going off the size tag alone, especially with vintage and Y2K pieces.
